Eric Schmidt, 71, the former Google CEO, owns around 1% of Anthropic, according to CNBC-TV18, Mint, TechCrunch and The Times of India. He put tens of millions of dollars into the 2021 Series A. The round's details were first reported by The Times of India: $124 million in May 2021, led by Jaan Tallinn, with Dustin Moskovitz and Schmidt.

Bloomberg puts Schmidt's current net worth at $57.5 billion. At a $2 trillion IPO valuation, CNBC-TV18 and Mint say it could reach close to $80 billion. TechCrunch, which first reported the figure, says the stake could gain as much as $20 billion at that value. CNBC-TV18 first reported that the stake gained nearly $10 billion at the latest $965B valuation, and that $2 trillion would be more than 4,300 times the Series A valuation. Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO, holds 2%, first reported by TechCrunch.

The Series A valuation is reported two ways. CNBC-TV18 and TechCrunch cite PitchBook for $461 million. The Times of India cites secondary market data for about $623 million post-money. Investors have discussed $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion for the IPO, with some closer to $1.5 trillion. CNBC-TV18 says marketing could begin the week of November 9, with a debut by year-end. The Times of India reports a mid-November listing, with the earliest possible public filing on October 26. It is unclear whether Schmidt sold any stake. He and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
