Netflix announced on 3 November 2026 that a small group of members can try theme-based picks in its TV app.
The 30-second read
- Netflix has added a tab called AI Discover to its TV app for a small group of members.
- It starts with themes like Something Light and Scare Me, each shown with a clip.
- It is rolling out in the US to English-language members on supported TVs, and will expand over coming weeks.
IllustrationNetflix announced AI Discover on 3 November 2026. It is a new tab in the TV app, and a limited set of members are testing fresh ways of finding something to watch. In the top navigation the tab is labelled Discover and carries a red gem icon along with a New tag.
The first experience is built around themes. Examples include Something Light, Scare Me, Family Movie Night and Quick Watches. Each theme gets a preview in the form of a clip taken from a show or movie. Every title also gets a Tune Your Recommendations button, placed next to Play and My List, so members can keep or exclude a suggestion.
Netflix describes the technology as "a new intelligence layer we’ve been building that responds to what members tell us in real time and keeps learning". Netflix also says: "Think of AI Discover as our test kitchen: we’re trying out new recipes for discovery". Some experiments may move into the main Netflix experience, depending on member feedback.
The rollout is in the US, for English-language members on supported TVs, and will widen over the coming weeks. TechCrunch says the tab suggests a shift from endless scrolling toward more personalised, AI-powered discovery. The Verge notes the launch follows layoffs, slowing growth and reportedly reduced viewing. The Verge first reported the layoff figure of around 1,000 employees.
Why it matters
Choosing what to watch is an everyday problem on streaming apps, and Netflix is testing AI as one answer. The test is limited to the US for now, and the fact sheet gives no India timeline.
