Mumbai-based healthtech startup Docterz has secured Rs 5 crore in a round with around 35 investors, as reported by Inc42, Indian Startup News and digitalhealthnews. Nearly 60% of the round, about Rs 3 crore, came from around 20 doctors who use the product.

Indian Startup News first reported that each doctor put in approximately Rs 15 lakh on average. It also first reported that about 15 other investors gave about Rs 2 crore. Investors named include Vineeta Singh, co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, and Avnish Anand, co-founder and former CEO of CaratLane. Paediatricians Dhananjay Sangle and Suhas Warad are among the doctor-investors.

Atish Laddad, a practising paediatrician and the founder and CEO, said, "What makes this funding round special for me is that around 20 doctors who use Docterz have chosen to invest in its future. They know the product, they have seen its evolution, and they understand the needs of the medical community," as first reported by Indian Startup News. Shailesh Garg is co-founder and CTO.

The money will be used for organic growth, acquisitions and AI tools for doctors. Docterz sells clinic software covering EMR, appointments, billing, vaccination management and patient engagement. The planned AI tools target documentation, administrative workflows and practice-data analysis. It also wants to reach independent practitioners and smaller clinics.

Why it matters

Small clinics are the target users, and Docterz is working on integration with the government's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. It supports over 5,000 doctors across India, so its AI plans could reach many independent practices.
