The 30-second read
- TravClan raised $5 million: equity from Flipkart and August One, and debt from Trifecta Capital.
- Funds will go to global supply, technology and AI, and destination operations.
- The startup serves more than 15,000 travel agents, with about 40% of business from Tier II and III cities.
TravClan, a Delhi-based B2B traveltech startup, has raised $5 million. Flipkart and August One invested in equity, while Trifecta Capital provided debt. The equity-versus-debt split was first reported by Inc42. Flipkart's minority stake was announced on 5 October. Inc42 describes August One as a Singapore-based investment firm. Indian Startup News was first to report that TravClan has now raised more than $11 million in total.
TravClan sells to travel agents. It covers pricing, itineraries, bookings, payments and on-ground support. It signs contracts straight with hotels and activity partners and operates ground teams in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and India. The company says it serves more than 18 markets. It was founded by Arun Bagaria, Chirag Agrawal and Ashish Thapliyal. Bagaria is co-founder and CEO.
The funds will go toward deepening its global supply network, building up its tech and AI capabilities, and reinforcing operations at destinations in key international markets. Bagaria said: "The next generation of travel software will not just help sellers search faster. It will increasingly execute work for them." Indian Startup News first reported another quote from him: "Our ambition is to make TravClan the infrastructure that any travel business can build on instead of having to recreate the entire travel stack itself. This capital allows us to invest aggressively behind that opportunity."
Sahil Kukreja, Vice President at Trifecta Capital, said: "TravClan has built a capital efficient model by owning supply rather than buying demand, and distributing through agents in underserved markets," as first reported by Indian Startup News. Flipkart said its investment would strengthen international travel offerings on Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel. Nishant Verman is SVP of Corporate Development and Partnerships at Flipkart.
Why it matters
Indian travel agents, many in smaller cities, get access to a tech and supply platform. Flipkart's backing could also widen international holiday options on Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel for Indian travellers.
